DURHAM, New Hampshire — A New Hampshire man faces several charges after police say he punched a New Hampshire state trooper in the face after a traffic stop and potential drunken driving arrest.
Christopher St. Onge, 22, turned himself in to police Saturday morning in Exeter, New Hampshire, about 11 hours after he was accused of assaulting Trooper Michelle Montville on Main Street in Durham.
Montville stopped St. Onge for crossing the center into oncoming traffic. After a sobriety test, Montville was preparing to arrest St. Onge for driving while intoxicated when St. Onge punched the trooper in the face.
After exchanging punches with Montville, police said St. Onge ran off. After several hours of searching for the suspect, St. Onge was taken into custody Saturday morning in Exeter, coordinating his surrender to authorities through his lawyer.
St. Onge is charged with felony escape, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, driving while intoxicated, transportation of alcoholic beverages and other motor vehicle-related charges, according to New Hampshire State Police.
Montville was treated at the scene by Durham Fire and Rescue.
