ROCKLAND, Maine — The city’s finance director will be leaving for Camden after five months on the job in Rockland.

City Manager James Chaousis announced Monday that Finance Director Virginia Lindsey had accepted the finance director post in Camden. Lindsey will be replacing Carol Sue Greenleaf who is retiring after 29 years in the Camden post.

Camden Town Manager Patricia Finnigan confirmed Monday that Lindsey has been hired and will begin work May 2. Lindsey, whose salary in Rockland is $72,562, will be paid $78,000 for the post in Camden. Greenleaf will remain on the job through May 6 to help with the transition, according to Finnigan.

“This is a great opportunity for Ginny but a big loss for Rockland,” Chaousis said in his weekly report issued Monday. “I’m not sure how someone can become as valuable as Ginny did, for the City of Rockland, in such a short amount of time. She performed several years’ worth of finance work in months. The advancements she made in the finance office will be felt for years. In a short amount of time, I have developed a very strong admiration for her skills and abilities,” Chaousis said in his weekly report issued Monday.

Lindsey began working for Rockland in November, succeeding Tom Luttrell, who took a job with Rockland Savings Bank in September.

Lindsey had been the finance director in Rockport for the previous nine years. She also worked as a clerk for Knox County for more than 20 years. She is a graduate of Rockland District High School and the University of Maine.

Rockland payroll clerk Wanda Harvey will serve as interim finance director.
