PORTLAND, Maine — A 24-year-old male inmate died at Cumberland County Jail on Monday morning, according to jail officials.
Nikco Bashari Walton, 24, was found unresponsive in his cell at 6:40 a.m., according to a release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Correctional officers gave first aid and CPR to Walton, and Portland MEDCU personnel also rendered aid until Walton died.
The sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division and Portland police are investigating the death.
No other information was immediately available.
