AUGUSTA, Maine — City police and the Bureau of Highway Safety will be cracking down on distracted driving throughout the spring and summer, Augusta police announced in a statement Monday.
Patrol activities will be conducted throughout the city to focus on distracted driving, according to the statement.
Augusta police were awarded grant money to have extra officers focusing on texting and driving, the statement said.
The patrol activities will be conducted between now and September and will include traffic details, education and high visibility enforcement.
The goal of the enforcement is to reduce the number of distracted-driving accidents.
