Game notes: The Black Bears will take advantage of a nonleague game to continue building confidence after taking two of three from Maryland Baltimore County over the weekend. UMaine will employ some of its lesser-used pitchers, who need work after it only four worked over the weekend. The Bears have won five of their last six. The Owls of the Division III ranks have lost four in a row, including 8-6 and 15-1 decisions Friday at Southern Vermont. UMPI is batting .261 as a team, averaging 5.5 runs per game. The Owls are averaging better than two errors per contest. UMaine is preparing for a three-game America East series at Hartford beginning Saturday. The Owls, who have only four games remaining after Wednesday, have played every one of their games on the road this season.
