BANGOR, Maine — A Mount Vernon man will spend six years behind bars for his role in a pair of pharmacy robberies in Kennebec County last year, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Steven C. Chaput, 40, was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay $726 in restitution at his sentencing at U.S. District Court Tuesday.
On Feb. 7, 2015, Chaput drove Rudger Ellis to an Augusta Rite Aid, which Ellis robbed. Chaput was the getaway vehicle driver.
Eleven days after that robbery, Chaput once again served as the getaway driver for Ellis, this time at a Gardiner Rite Aid. In each case, the pharmacy was robbed of prescription medication.
Ellis was sentenced to five years in prison earlier this month.
The investigation was conducted by Augusta and Gardiner police and the FBI.
