ROCKLAND, Maine — A local man was located and arrested Monday in connection with an alleged alcohol poisoning incident last February involving a pair of 14-year-olds, according to police.
Ryan Newbert, 19, has been charged with aggravated furnishing of alcohol to minors and aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs, according to a statement issued Tuesday by Rockland police Sgt. Don Finnegan.
Brenda Shepard, 63, of Rockland also was charged with aggravated furnishing of alcohol to minors on March 11 in connection with the case.
Police investigated when a citizen reported on Feb. 29 that an unconscious minor had been pulled into a vehicle, according to Finnegan.
Officer William Smith found the vehicle and stopped it on Camden Street, and two unconscious 14-year-olds were found in the vehicle.
The two teens, whose names were not released because they are juveniles, were brought to the Penobscot Bay Medical Center to be treated for alcohol poisoning, Finnegan reported. Then they were placed on life support before being flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
“Both of the girls were successfully treated and are doing well,” Finnegan said Tuesday.
If convicted, Newbert and Shepard could spend up to five years in prison on each of their charges.
