PORTLAND, Maine — Kevin McAvoy sparked the Portland Sea Dogs to a 4-1 win over the Trenton Thunder in game two of their Eastern League baseball series Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.

McAvoy (3-0) now has won all three of his starts in Double-A, picking up his first quality start against Trenton. McAvoy allowed one earned run on four hits in six innings while walking two and striking out five. Mitch Atkins worked two perfect innings of relief and struck out three, while Chandler Shepherd picked up his first career Double-A save.

Portland’s offense cranked out 11 hits. Jake Romanski finished 3-for-4, Cole Sturgeon went 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI and stolen base, and Derek Miller went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

The win for Portland ended the team’s four-game losing streak.
