MADAWASKA, Maine — Police are investigating a case of vandalism at a local park after a parent reported that their child was covered in what appeared to be motor oil after using the playground equipment.
There were no problems reported at Dionne Park on Monday, so it appears someone spread motor oil on one of the slides and others parts of the playground equipment sometime that evening or Tuesday morning, according to Madawaska police Chief Carroll Theriault.
He said Thursday that officers with his department had been speaking with neighbors and users of the park on Fox Street to try and determine who may be involved.
Theriault said the equipment needed to be steam-cleaned, and some of the oil-covered gravel was removed from the site. The cost of these repairs has yet to be determined, he said.
The perpetrator could face a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief, the chief said.
Anyone with information that may assist police with this investigation is urged to call the department at 728-6356.
