LEWISTON, Maine — A 54-year-old woman died Friday afternoon after she fell from a third-floor balcony outside her home.

Jocelyn Healey of Pine Street had been standing on a small ladder working outside when she fell over the side of the balcony, according to Lewiston police.

“She was trying to hang something and lost her balance,” Lewiston police Lt. Danny LaChance said. “She fell three stories.”

Investigators said Healey was reported down on the ground and injured at about 1:30 p.m. Fire and rescue crews attempted lifesaving measures, but Healey was pronounced dead shortly after they arrived.

LaChance said there was no sign of foul play.

“It was an unfortunate accident,” he said.
