BANGOR — Sami Cyr drove in two runs with a double and a single in the second game, leading the Husson University Eagles to a 7-4 victory and a split of their North Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader against the New England College Pilgrims Saturday at O’Keefe Field.

NEC won the first game 3-1.

On Sunday, Bowdoin swept Husson in nonconference action, 8-0 and 11-0 as pitchers Julia Geaumont and Samantha Roy each earned a five-inning win while each holding Husson to four hits.

In Game 2, Alannah Healy scattered 10 hits and four runs for Husson (7-5 NAC). Kristen Chipman (triple) and Casey Heath logged three hits each while Lyndsay Merrill and Allison Hill each tripled and singled with an RBI.

Joslyn Gallagher paced NEC (16-16, 5-3 NAC) with a two-run homer, Brianna Castellano collected three singles and Jamie Ray doubled and singled with an RBI. Debra Mazzeo took the loss in the circle.

In Game 1, Gabriella Marcheschi pitched a five-hitter and helped her own cause with a double, two singles and an RBI to lead the Pilgrims.

Castellano singled three times for the winners.

Sami Cyr (double) and Chipman each had two hits for Husson and Nicole Andrade added an RBI single to support losing pitcher Healy.

In Sunday’s first game, Geaumont (11-5) struck out five walked just one to lead Polar Bears.

Marisa O’Toole sparked Bowdoin (18-13-2) with a two-run homer and RBI double. Claire McCarthy chipped in with a double, two singles and an RBI while Caroline Rice and Natalie Edwards each added two hits.

Cyr doubled for Husson (11-23).

In the second game, Roy (3-2) struck out nine batters and walked just one to earn the win.

O’Toole smacked a solo homer and an RBI single while Rice doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs. Katie Gately added a three-run homer in the fourth.

Husson was held to four singles.

Baseball

Castleton sweeps Husson

At Castleton, Vermont, the Spartans scored six runs in the third inning of the opener en route to a 7-4 victory and sweep of Saturday’s North Atlantic Conference doubleheader.

Castleton won the second game 3-1.

The Spartans went on to sweep a Sunday doubleheader, also, 3-2 in 12 innings and 2-0.

Mitchell Caron singled three times (RBI) in the first game to lead Castleton. Nick Swim (double, RBI) and Deagan Poland provided two hits each to support Sam Spencer, who fired a four-hitter.

Christian Corneil led Husson of Bangor (15-16, 10-6 NAC) with a single and two RBIs behind losing pitcher Brandon Reilly.

In the nightcap, Charles Stapleford pitched a one-hitter, striking out six and walking five, to set the tone for the Spartans. He outdueled the Eagles’ Dan Whitney, who spaced seven hits.

Zach Bahan snapped a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the fifth, which included two errors. Dan Errico (RBI) and Taylor Vile had two hits each.

Julien Boone’s RBI single in the first was Husson’s only hit.

In Sunday’s first game, Dillon Benham’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 12th gave Castleton (24-9, 16-2 NAC) the winning edge.

Benham finished with two hits and two RBIs for the Spartans and Swim added two doubles and an RBI.

Ben Walls scattered nine hits and two runs in eight innings for Husson (15-18, 10-8). He struck out five and walked one before Ben Holmes (1-1) finished, giving up a hit and run in 3 ⅓ innings.

Boone had two hits for the Eagles while Alex Chapman and Cam Archer each drove in a run.

In the second game, Steven Jurkiewicz (4-2) held the Eagles to four hits to earn the win. He walked two and struck out three.

Jim Buckley had two hits and an RBI.

Robert Graff (1-4) was the tough-luck losing pitcher as he gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out two.

J.T. Whitten singled twice.
