BRUNSWICK, Maine — A custodian at a Brunswick elementary school is on paid leave after he was accused of sexually touching a teenager.

Earl Ater, 59, of Brunswick was charged with misdemeanor unlawful sexual touching in March, Brunswick police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said.

Police told WGME the alleged victim, a teenager, is not a student in the Brunswick schools.

Ater, who is the evening custodian supervisor at Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School in Brunswick, told CBS 13 on Thursday the allegation is false but declined to comment further. His attorney also declined to comment.

Paul Perzanoski, superintendent of Brunswick schools, told CBS 13 that elementary school parents were notified and that no students at the school were in danger.
