Fort Kent’s Austin Theriault, who is currently driving in the K and N Pro Series East circuit, will return to the Camping World Truck Series for one race next month.
The 22-year-old Theriault will again drive for Brad Keselowski Racing and it will be in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 20.
He will be driving the No. 2 Ford-150 which is the third truck in the Keselowski fleet and includes regulars Tyler Reddick (No. 29) and Daniel Hemric (No. 19).
Theriault ran nine races for BKR a year ago and had two top-five and four top-10 finishes. He missed four races because of a compression fracture in his lower back suffered in a wreck also involving Reddick at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Theriault ran in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 19 and led a race-high 31 laps only to have a late-race accident relegate him to a 27th-place finish.
“I was really proud of the effort at Daytona and how strong our performance was, and I feel like Charlotte won’t be any different,” Theriault said in a news release. “I’m going there with the expectation to win. I know we will have a strong Ford F-150 race truck at Charlotte and we plan to perform well just like we did earlier this year at Daytona.
“At the end of the day, we want to win and we have all the resources here at BKR to do just that at Charlotte,” he added.
Theriault said later Friday that it will be “good to get back in a truck.”
“I haven’t been in one in a while. The other guys will have several races on me but I’m confident we can get a good finish,” said Theriault.
Theriault will make his road course debut at 3:45 p.m. Saturday in the K and N Pro Series East Biscuitville 125 at Virginia International Raceway.
He is 10th in points after four races in the Hattori Motorsports Toyota.
