AUGUSTA — Two days after being acquitted of charges of operating under the influence, an Augusta man was back in police custody on the same charges Saturday morning.
Police tried to pull over Jose Jesus Tapia-Smith, 21, of Augusta at around 1:15 a.m. Saturday, but Tapia-Smith allegedly attempted tried to escape before eventually stopping on Old Belgrade Road.
He was arrested for allegedly operating under the influence, eluding an officer and driving with a suspended license.
He was being held at the Kennebec County Jail on $7,500 cash bail.
