Fort Kent native Austin Theriault posted his first top-three finish in the K and N Pro Series East circuit on Saturday as he wound up third behind Austin Cindric and Justin Haley in the Biscuitville 125 at Virginia International Raceway.

The 22-year-old Theriault, who drives a Toyota for Shigeaki Hattori Racing, was making his road course debut.

He qualified fifth on the 2.25-mile road course.

The finish moved Theriault from 10th to eighth in the points standings. He now has two top-five finishes among the first five races on the 14-race tour.

He will return to his No. 1 Toyota on May 30 for the ComServe Memorial Day Classic at Dominion Raceway (Virginia) on May 30.

Theriault will return to the Camping World Truck Series for one race next month.

He will again drive for Brad Keselowski Racing and it will be in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 20.

He will be driving the No. 2 Ford-150 which is the third truck in the Keselowski fleet and includes regulars Tyler Reddick (No. 29) and Daniel Hemric (No. 19).

Theriault ran nine races for BKR a year ago and had two top-five and four top-10 finishes. He missed four races because of a compression fracture in his lower back suffered in a wreck also involving Reddick at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Theriault ran in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 19 and led a race-high 31 laps only to have a late-race accident relegate him to a 27th-place finish.

“I was really proud of the effort at Daytona and how strong our performance was, and I feel like Charlotte won’t be any different,” Theriault said in a news release. “I’m going there with the expectation to win. I know we will have a strong Ford F-150 race truck at Charlotte and we plan to perform well just like we did earlier this year at Daytona.

“At the end of the day, we want to win and we have all the resources here at BKR to do just that at Charlotte,” he added.
