Attention all lovers of 1990s music: Blues Traveler and The Wallflowers with special guest G. Love & Special Sauce will take the Maine State Pier stage in Portland on Sunday, Aug. 28.
Blues Traveler won a Grammy award for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group for the song “Run-Around” in 1995. The band’s most recent album is “Blow Up The Moon,” which was released in April 2015, and features collaborations with artists Thompson Square, Plain White T’s, 3OH!3, Dirty Heads and Rome Ramirez (Sublime), Hanson, Jewel, Secondhand Serenade, JC Chasez (*NSYNC), Bowling for Soup, New Hollow and Thomas Ian Nicholas. The eclectic mix both wrote and performed songs with Blues Traveler — a rarity for the band that’s been creating music for more than 25 years.
“We wanted to experiment with co-writing since we usually try to do everything in-house, in this misguided homage to The Beatles,” singer John Popper said in a release.
The Wallflowers, led by vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Jakob Dylan, has won two Grammys, both in 1998 for the song “One Headlight,” since forming in the mid-1990s. The song won both Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal that year. The band’s latest album “Glad All Over” was released in fall 2012.
The band, which has gone through several incarnations, presently includes keyboard player Rami Jaffee, bassist Greg Richling, guitarist Stuart Mathis and drummer Jack Irons.
