FARMINGDALE, Maine — The morning commute on Interstate 95 in Farmingdale was snarled Monday morning by a crash involving a tractor-trailer, according to the Maine Turnpike Authority.

The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Monday at Mile 105 in the southbound lane, and crews have spent much of the morning attempting to clean up the scene.

Troopers said the driver, 44-year-old Duncan MacPhee from Cornwall, Prince Edward Island, fell asleep, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland. Both the driver and his passenger were not injured.

McCausland reported shortly after 11 a.m. both northbound lanes of the turnpike have reopened, while the passing lane of the southbound side will remain closed throughout the day for guardrail repair.

Long backups are expected throughout the day. The truck, loaded with French fries, struck the guardrail in the median near the Northern Avenue overpass. The truck came to rest on its side on top of the guardrails.

McCausland said the truck has been removed, and work to replace more than 100 feet of guardrail will continue throughout the day.
