BANGOR, Maine — A father-son duo were arrested Wednesday in connection with the robbery of a credit union in March in West Enfield, officials said.

Christopher Cooney, 30, and Edward Cooney, 56, both of Etna, are each facing a robbery charge in connection with the March 28 incident, according to Penobscot County Sheriff Troy Morton.

Christopher Cooney was allegedly the man responsible for going into the bank while his father drove the getaway car.

In addition to the robbery, the younger Cooney also is facing a charge of violating his probation, according to Morton.

Also during the course of the investigation, a vehicle involved in the robbery was seized, the sheriff said.

Maine State Police and the FBI aided Penobscot County deputies in the investigation, Morton said.

Both Cooneys remained at Penobscot County Jail Wednesday afternoon.
