WATERVILLE, Maine — A tractor-trailer hauling golf tees jackknifed Thursday morning on Interstate 95, creating massive traffic backups, according to state police.

Paul Cusano, 54, of Epping, New Hampshire, apparently became distracted and struck guardrails on both sides of the northbound lane before jackknifing on the Kennedy Memorial Drive overpass, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.

The crash occurred at 10:19 a.m.

The truck was en route to Pride Manufacturing in Burnham, and Cusano suffered minor injuries, McCausland said.

Traffic was diverted at Exit 127 and was allowed to cross Kennedy Memorial Drive and then head back to the interstate, McCausland said.

The truck, which was demolished, has been removed.
