BANGOR, Maine — One last warning — part of Interstate 395 closes Friday night for at least three days while construction crews replace a bridge.
I-395 will shut down at 8 p.m. Friday and is scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday. The road will be closed between Exits 1 and 2. Exit 182, which links Interstate 95 with I-395 in both directions, also will be closed during construction. The I-395 ramps on Main Street in Bangor also will be closed for safety reasons.
Crews are replacing the 57-year-old bridge that passes over Webster Avenue.
Drivers on I-395 wishing to get to I-95 should take Exit 2 and follow Route 202 for 3.7 miles and connect with I-95 at Coldbrook Road.
I-95 commuters wishing to get to I-395 should get off at Exit 180 and connect to Route 202 via Coldbrook Road.
Motorists traveling on Main Street in Bangor looking to connect to I-95 should follow Route 1A into Hampden and then turn right onto Western Avenue, turn right onto Route 202 and connect with Coldbrook Road.
After the long weekend bridge project is complete, the Maine Department of Transportation expects to launch a second construction effort, milling and resurfacing the entire 5-mile stretch of I-395. The road will remain open for the duration of that project, which is expected to last throughout the summer.
