HERMON, Maine — A motorcyclist was injured Friday when his bike was struck by a van on Route 2 just west of the Bangor-Hermon line, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

The biker was heading west when the van’s driver attempted to make a left turn out of Freedom Park and head towards Bangor, according to Deputy Frank Jennings.

The names of the drivers were not disclosed.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and suffered a concussion and a broken ankle, said Jennings. The van’s driver was not injured.

The deputy added it’s likely the van’s driver could not see the motorcycle clearly.

“It’s that time of year where motorcycles are on the road, they are more difficult to see, so I caution everyone to make sure you look twice and keep in mind that the motorcycles are out,” Jennings said.

Both vehicles suffered substantial damage and were towed from the scene.

The motorcyclist was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center. The crash remains under investigation.
