PORTLAND, Maine — A Waterboro man is accused of terrorizing a 10-year-old after allegedly ordering him to get in a truck as he walked along Ocean Avenue on Thursday.
Christopher Bennett, 23, had been a passenger in the vehicle, according to Portland police Lt. James Sweatt. The boy was walking home from school at the time of the incident, which was reported around 3:45 p.m.
The boy dropped his backpack and ran away after refusing to get in the truck, Sweatt said. A passing motorist witnessed the incident and helped the child find a neighbor and staff from Ocean Avenue Elementary School, Sweatt said.
Another witness flagged down police, who pulled over the truck on Forest Avenue.
Bennett was arrested and charged with terrorizing. The driver, Nathan Desfosses, 26, of Shapleigh, was also arrested and charged with operating after suspension.
