DRESDEN, Maine — A 28-year-old Dresden man is being held without bail at Two Bridges Regional Jail after allegedly assaulting and attempting to strangle his girlfriend Sunday night at their home on Middle Road.

Jeffrey Peaslee was charged with Class B felony domestic violence aggravated assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief, according to Lt. Michael Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies went to Peaslee’s home at 11:15 p.m. Sunday after the 26-year-old woman reported that her boyfriend, Peaslee, had assaulted her and then smashed the windshield of her car with a car battery, Murphy said.

The alleged assault reportedly followed an argument about whether Peaslee was too intoxicated to drive.

The woman showed visible bruising, the lieutenant said, but did not require medical treatment.

Peaslee, who allegedly had fled from the home before deputies arrived, was arrested at 7:30 a.m. Monday at his parents’ home, also in Dresden.

A court date was not immediately available Monday afternoon.
