OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — Police in Old Orchard Beach are warning people to lock their doors and windows, after a man broke into a home at The Pines at Ocean Park.

The woman who lives there said the man came in through a window Sunday night but said it was her dog that came to the rescue.

Police were out in the area of Manor Street Monday afternoon, warning residents to lock their homes.

They say around 10:30 p.m. Sunday a man broke into the resident’s house looking for things to steal.

He left empty-handed, and the woman said it was her dog, Spicy, that saved the day.

“It is unusual for that area. It’s unusual for Old Orchard entirely. We don’t have that many incidents like that that take place, so when they do it’s cause for concern obviously for those people that live in those locations,” police Chief Dana Kelley said.

Investigators say the suspect is described as a white man around 25 to 30 years old, 5-foot-10, wearing a hat and camouflage clothing.

Police are urging all residents to report any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact police.
