MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — The New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored twice in the first inning and held on for the remainder of the game, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs 2-1 in an Eastern League baseball game on Monday night at Northeast Delta Stadium.

Jon Berti tripled off Teddy Stankiewicz (L, 0-2) with one out in the first, Dwight Smith Jr. doubled him in to make it 1-0, then Matt Dean hit an RBI single to score Smith and put New Hampshire ahead 2-0.

Stankiewicz settled down after that and lasted six innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out four. It was Stankiewicz’s fifth quality start in six outings.

The Sea Dogs struck for a run off Fisher Cats’ starter Luis Santos (W, 3-0) in the fourth inning. With two outs and the bases empty, Jake Romanski doubled and Aneury Tavarez (1-3, 2B, RBI) hit an RBI double to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Santos tied a career high throwing seven innings, allowing one run on four hits while walking two and striking out six. John Stilson and Wil Browning (S, 4) combined to pitch two scoreless in relief.
