The University of Maine softball team swept the three top individual awards on Tuesday night during the America East awards reception on the campus of Binghamton University at Vestal, New York.
Janelle Bouchard was selected as the America East Player of the Year, Erin Bogdanovich earned the America East Pitcher of the Year honor and Alyssa Derrick was named the league’s Rookie of the Year.
Bouchard and Bogdanovich also were named to the America East all-conference first team, while Molly Flowers, Felicia Lennon, Derrick, Rachel Harvey and Erika Leonard earned spots on the all-conference second team.
Maddie Decker, Meghan Royle and Derrick all were accorded positions on the America East All-Rookie Team.
Binghamton’s Michelle Burrell was the Coach of the Year.
Bouchard is the seventh Black Bear named Player of the Year and the first since Alexis Souhlaris in 2009. The senior catcher led coach Mike Coutts’ UMaine team in batting average (.394), hits (56) and doubles (13).
She struck out only seven times in 142 at-bats. Bouchard led the squad in multiple-hit games (18) and multi-RBI games (9).
Bogdanovich is UMaine’s fourth America East Pitcher of the Year, following in the footsteps of her sister Alexis, who won it in 2015. The junior left-hander was 7-0 with a 1.11 earned run average and struck out 39 in 50⅓ innings in league play.
Bogdanovich (8-4) held opposing league hitters to a .193 average and posted a 3.12 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 96.1 innings overall.
Derrick is UMaine’s second Rookie of the Year, joining Jenna Balent in 2006. Derrick batted .300 and ranked sixth in the league with 38 RBI and eight home runs.
Flowers led the league in strikeouts with 138 in 102⅔ innings. The sophomore righty went 10-10 with a 2.59 ERA and pitched four no-hitters. She ranked 13th in the nation with 9.4 strikeouts per seven innings.
Lennon, a two-time second-teamer, hit .400 in AE action and .309 overall. The junior shortstop drove in 14 of her 29 runs in league play and scored 23 runs overall with 11 doubles and four home runs.
Harvey was second on the team in average (.371) and hits (49) to go along with 28 runs and 22 RBIs. She batted .396 in conference games.
Leonard paced UMaine in runs (36), walks (25) and stolen bases (18). The sophomore outfielder hit .317 and tied for third on the team with 44 hits. She added 17 RBIs and 10 doubles.
Decker hit .316 with 18 RBIs, nine runs scored, 25 hits and a two home runs. Royle posted a .314 average with 37 hits, 25 runs, 15 RBIs, 10 doubles and three homers.
Leonard and Bouchard also were named to the America East All-Academic team. Leonard is a nursing major with a 3.79 GPA while Bouchard features a 3.42 GPA in child development and family relations.
