THOMASTON, Maine — A 70-year-old Owls Head woman remained in critical condition Wednesday after she was injured a day earlier when her own pickup truck ran over her.
Virginia Gamage was initially taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Thomaston ambulance but then transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where a spokeswoman said her condition was critical.
On Tuesday, Gamage had backed her full-size GMC truck into a parking space in the parking lot of the Thomaston Wal-Mart and then got out of the vehicle. But for some reason, she immediately tried to get back into the vehicle, according to Thomaston Police Chief Kevin Haj. Her left leg was still outside the truck when it started moving forward, he said.
Gamage then fell out of the truck, and the rear driver’s side wheel drove over her left leg and arm.
