WISCASSET, Maine — Emergency workers are responding to a fatal crash on Bath Road (Route 1) near the Wiscasset-Woolwich line.

One individual died and two were injured in the head-on, two-vehicle crash, according to Wiscasset interim police Chief Jerry Hinton.

Route 1 is closed while investigators conduct a crash reconstruction and remove evidence from the roadway.

A post on the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page asks drivers to “seek alternative routes.”

Northbound motorists should turn left on Mountain Road to avoid the scene, according to the Maine Department of Transportation. Mountain Road turns into Old Stage Road, which turns into Old Bath Road, which will return motorists to Route 1.

Southbound motorists can turn onto Old Bath Road and follow it to Old Stage Road and Mountain Road.

The Lincoln County Communications Center dispatched the Wiscasset Ambulance Service and the Wiscasset Fire Department to the scene at 11:18 a.m.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wiscasset Police Department are on scene, as is the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.
