WEST BATH, Maine — A janitor at a Brunswick elementary school pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to a charge of unlawful sexual touching involving a 15-year-old girl.
Earl F. Ater, 59, of Brunswick was charged by Brunswick police with the Class D misdemeanor, which allegedly took place on March 26 in Brunswick.
Police told WGME that the alleged victim is not a student in the Brunswick schools.
Ater’s attorney, Michael Turndorf of Portland, entered the plea on Ater’s behalf.
Ater, who is the evening custodian supervisor at Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School in Brunswick, has been on paid leave since the accusation.
In April, he told WGME that the allegation was false, but declined to comment further.
Ater is scheduled to appear in Portland Unified Criminal Court on July 28.
