FARMINGTON, Maine — The parents of a woman killed in a hit-and-run accident in Farmington are upset over the plea deal being offered to the man allegedly behind the wheel.

Taylor Gaboury’s parents are furious over the plea deal.

They wanted to see the driver face a manslaughter charge in the death of their daughter. Instead, they say he will plead guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for a lesser sentence.

“I don’t believe that this is justice at all,” Gaboury’s mother, Tena Trask said.

According to the victim’s parents, prosecutors have agreed to a plea deal with Tommy Clark.

Police say he’s the driver who hit and killed 21-year-old Taylor Gaboury, as she was walking along Route 4 in Farmington on New Year’s Eve.

Clark is charged with OUI and leaving the scene of a fatal crash. Court paperwork says Clark tried to wake her up and when he realized she had died, he left his passengers there and went to a motel where officers tracked him down.

Taylor’s parents say prosecutors never talked to them about a plea deal. They’re also upset because they say under the plea deal; the maximum sentence Clark can get is five years behind bars.

“They’re worried about what it’s going to do to us,” Trask said. “Let us worry about that. We lost our daughter. Nothing is ever going to bring her back. But he needs to pay for what he did. He needs to know that her life matters. And that’s not OK. And just going for an easy conviction is not OK.”

“They keep preaching that Maine has a tough drunk driving law and it really isn’t,” Gaboury’s father, Ricky Gaboury said. “Especially when there’s a death involved.”

CBS 13 tried to speak with the prosecutor, Androscoggin District Attorney Jim Reynolds, but were told he’s on vacation. Hours before, Taylor Gadboury posted on Facebook asking people not to drink and drive.
