THOMASTON, Maine — The administrative secretary for the town was injured Tuesday afternoon when she was walking across Main Street and was struck by a tractor-trailer in the crosswalk near the municipal offices.

Louise Demers, 67, of Rockport, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at 1 p.m. at the intersection of Main and Beechwood streets, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Reginald Walker. Demers was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Demers was in a crosswalk when a 2003 Peterbuilt 18-wheel truck driven by Leo Pilote, 54, of Loudon, New Hampshire, attempted a left turn onto Main Street, Walker said. The driver said he did not see Demers in front of him.

No charges have been filed but the investigation continues. Deputy Nathaniel Jack investigated the crash because Demers is a town employee of Thomaston.

Main Street was shut down for four hours while the crash was forensically mapped by Knox County deputies. The sheriff’s office requested the assistance of Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to reconstruct the crash. The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit was also called to assist with the investigation.
