Damariscotta police say a Jefferson woman was going door-to-door claiming to have lost her dog and asking to use the bathroom, then — in reportedly at least one case — stealing prescription drugs once inside.
The Damariscotta Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Amanda Wallace, 34, on a felony charge of theft of prescription drugs, according to Portland NBC affiliate, WCSH 6.
Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett told the television station police stopped Wallace’s vehicle after a tip about the alleged activity. He said she had a young child in the car when police charged her with a crime they say took place at a home on Center Street in Nobleboro.
Sgt. Jason Warlick of the Damariscotta Police Department warned the public earlier in the week about the alleged “lost dog” scam, urging area residents to keep their homes and cars locked, and not to let anyone in their homes they don’t know personally.
“This behavior is indicative of someone casing homes for future burglaries,” Warlick told the Lincoln County News at the time. “We just want everyone to be safe and stay vigilant.”
