CAMDEN, Maine — A second community meeting hosted by the tannery work group is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 20, at the Camden Rockport Middle School cafeteria.
Approximately 85 people attended the May 12 meeting where environmental engineers and representatives from Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection spoke about the condition of the former Apollo Tannery site. Also at the meeting, the 14-member tannery work group shared some of their work to date.
At the June 20 community meeting, the work group will seek input from community members about possible uses for the property. The Tannery Work Group is charged with recommending to the Select Board a type of use for the property.
The work group was formed by the Camden Select Board following a vote by citizens in November 2014 on how they felt the site should be used. The vote had shown the community to be about evenly split on the question of use for the property: 1,429 supported a commercial/business use, and 1,360 supported park/open space.
