BRUNSWICK, Maine — Two Rhode Island men were arrested early Saturday morning on various charges after police stopped a car allegedly travelling down Pleasant Street at twice the posted speed limit.
Just before 12:30 a.m., Brunswick police stopped the 2016 Toyota Camry on Pleasant Street — a section of Route 1 posted with a 35 miles-per-hour limit — after allegedly clocking it at 70 miles per hour, Brunswick Police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said.
The driver, Richard Anthony Robinson, 24, was arrested for speeding 30 or more miles per hour over the limit and operating a motor vehicle without a license. Police also charged him with unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs and sale and use of drug paraphernalia after a police dog allegedly detected nearly four grams of crack cocaine and nearly a full bottle of the anti-anxiety medication diazepam (Valium), Hagan said.
One of four passengers in the Camry, 29-year-old Brian Lindsey, was charged with violating a protective order after police allegedly discovered that the the subject of the protective order, a 28-year-old woman also from Providence, was also a passenger in the car.
