BANGOR, Maine — A well-known Bangor television news anchor and reporter is leaving Maine for a job elsewhere.
Terry Stackhouse joined WABI TV-5 in September 2012. Friday was his last day.
“It’s truly been a pleasure to come into work every day,” Stackhouse said during an interview Friday. “Mainers really care about their community. News consumers in this area are very invested. They’re also very patient. Viewers see us come and go. They see us make mistakes. They laugh with us. If we’re lucky, we tell a story that moves them or sheds some light on an issue important to them.”
Stackhouse, a New Hampshire native, says he has a new position lined up elsewhere in New England but can’t disclose where that new post will take him until next week.
He reported and presented hundreds of stories during his time in Maine. Among them, his reports on high cancer rates among firefighters stand out, he said.
“I just really tried to treat every story with respect,” Stackhouse added. “Even stories that are easy to consider ‘not hard news’ I tried to present in an interesting way that served our viewers and the people I was reporting on.”
