AUGUSTA, Maine — A truck driver from Connecticut was arrested and charged with operating under the influence about 3:15 p.m. Thursday after multiple reports he was driving erratically on Interstate 95 South, according to the Maine State Police.
Damon Frechette, 39, of Putnam, Connecticut, remained Friday night at the Kennebec County Jail unable to post $500 cash bail.
Frechette’s blood-alcohol level was five times the legal limit of 0.04 percent for a commercial driver, according to the Kennebec Journal. The legal limit for operating a vehicle for noncommercial drivers is 0.08.
Dispatchers received a number of complaints Thursday afternoon from motorists who were driving between Clinton and Augusta, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Friday in an email.
Frechette, who was hauling 48,000 pound of mulch, stopped in Augusta after failing to follow troopers’ directions and pull into the Sidney weigh station, he said.
