PORTLAND, Maine — Gasoline prices in Maine rose about 2.5 cents in the past week, while remaining at the lowest point in more than a decade.

Price tracking website GasBuddy reported the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline hit $2.37 Sunday. For the same day, the national average was $2.32 per gallon, an increase of 3 cents from the week before.

Maine’s average price was about 35 cents lower than one year ago and, for late May, was at the lowest point since 2005.

GasBuddy said it expects most areas of the country will not break the $3 mark this summer, except for some of the largest metropolitan areas.

Maine’s gas prices last week were slightly higher than Vermont and New Hampshire, at $2.34 per gallon and $2.28 per gallon, respectively.
