TURNER, Maine — A Gray man was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash on Route 4 in Turner on Tuesday night and another man was seriously injured, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.

The preliminary investigation indicated the 73-year-old driver of a 1994 Dodge Ram van traveling south on Route 4 crossed the centerline into the path of a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling north, a news release stated.

The driver of the truck, Benjamin Ouellette, 35, of Greene reportedly was taken to Central Maine Medical Center by Turner Rescue with serious injuries.

The identity of the driver of the van was being withheld pending the notification of family.

The road was closed after the 6:30 p.m. crash between Route 117 and Mancine Road while authorities investigated the incident.

Both men had to be extricated from their vehicles by the Turner Fire Department. A crash reconstructionist from the Lewiston Police Department was assisting with the investigation.
