BRUNSWICK, Maine — A Brunswick cyclist traveling north on Gurnet Road early Saturday morning was injured when his bicycle struck a tractor-trailer, he fell off and the wheel of a tractor-trailer rolled over his leg.

Shawn Ward, 45, was biking on Gurnet Road just after 2 a.m. when his bicycle ran into the tire of a 2016 Volvo tractor-trailer as it exited the parking lot near the Applebee’s and Sam’s restaurants, Brunswick police Sgt. Paul Hansen said Monday.

Ward fell from the bike and landed under the vehicle, which was driven by 34-year-old Adam Petit of Springfield, Massachusetts. The driver’s side tire then rolled over Ward’s shin.

Brunswick rescue workers took Ward to a local hospital with a broken bone, according to Hansen.

Hansen said it was unclear from Saturday’s police report who was at fault in the crash. No charges were filed.
