BRUNSWICK, Maine — A local man faces burglary charges after Brunswick police allegedly found him inside the home of a 92-year-old woman while she was sleeping.

Robert E. Noyes, 59, whose address is not listed, was arrested just before 5 a.m. Friday at a home in the Willow Grove condominium complex off McKeen Street, Brunswick police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said.

Police went to the home after a resident of Willow Grove reported seeing a man attempting to break into the home. An officer saw a man carrying a flashlight while walking inside the home. Officers approached the suspect as he walked into the garage area and arrested Noyes without incident, Hagan said.

The 92-year-old resident remained asleep throughout the incident, Hagan said, though officers did wake her up.

Noyes allegedly entered the home through an unlocked door.

Hagan said police are familiar with Noyes from previous incidents during past years and suspect him of additional thefts in the area during the last six weeks.

“We’ve been having complaints over there,” he said. “Some vehicles and residences have been gone through, so we’ve been doing extra early morning patrols. We believe Mr. Noyes has been going into the residences.”

Hagan reminded residents to lock their doors and first-floor windows.

Noyes was taken to Cumberland County Jail and held on $2,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in Portland Unified Court on Aug. 16.
