JEFFERSON, Maine — Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies were investigating a threat posted online that referenced “Jefferson High School in Maine,” according to a statement released Monday.

The post was not sent directly to any specific school, as the town of Jefferson does not have a high school.

As a precautionary measure, two deputies were posted at the Jefferson Village School and a state trooper at South China’s Erskine Academy, the statement read.

Lincoln Academy officials also were advised, but no response was needed as their students have been dismissed for the summer.

The state police computer crimes unit is aiding Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
