LISBON, Maine — A 23-year-old Lisbon man was arrested Monday in connection with a hit-and-run crash Saturday night on Lisbon Street that caused the death of a Portland man.
Zachery Greene was charged Monday night with leaving the scene of an accident following a Saturday crash that allegedly caused fatal injuries to Jeffrey Sickel, 28, of Portland.
Sickel suffered injuries after being thrown from his motorcycle as a result of the collision and died from his injuries Monday at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Greene was allegedly driving a pickup truck that police said Monday turned into the path of Sickel’s motorcycle at the intersection of Route 196, also known as Lisbon Street, and Memorial Street at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
After the vehicle pulled into the path of the motorcycle, Sickel “obviously attempted to avoid it, and in doing so put his bike on its side and crashed into the side of the truck,” Lisbon Police Chief David Brooks said Monday.
Sickel was not wearing a helmet and was thrown from his motorcycle, according to the chief.
On Monday police initially sought a dark-colored SUV identified by witnesses, but later said they were searching for a white or silver-colored pickup truck had been identified on security video from a nearby credit union.
Greene was arrested at his home Monday night and taken to Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where he remained Tuesday morning on $2,000 cash bail. A court date was not immediately available.
Greene’s pickup truck was impounded and will be inspected by Maine State Police.
The Androscoggin County District Attorney is reviewing the case to determine whether additional charges will be sought, according to the release.
