HERMON, Maine — A Massachusetts man is facing multiple drug charges after a traffic stop yielded hundreds of oxycodone tablets, officials said Friday.
Alex Rios, 26, was arrested on Interstate 95 in Hermon, according to Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Cmdr. Peter Arno.
Authorities had been investigating activity by Rios over the last sixth months. He is accused of being responsible for distributing oxycodone throughout Penobscot County, according to Arno.
At the time of his arrest, Rios was in possession of 600 30-milligram oxycodone tablets, which he had brought from Massachusetts with the intent of distributing them in Penobscot County.
The current price of a single 30-milligram oxycodone tablet in Greater Bangor is $43, making the street value of the seized contraband $25,800.
Rios is facing charges of aggravated trafficking of oxycodone, a Class A crime, and importation of oxycodone, a Class C offense, Arno said.
Rios is being held at the Penobscot County Jail on $50,000 bail and was expected to be arraigned later Friday.
Rios faces up to 25 years in prison on the trafficking charge and five years on the importation charge.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office aided drug agents with the investigation.
