SIDNEY, Maine — A local woman was killed late Wednesday night in a head-on collision on West River Road, according to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
Laurie Garland, 47, was declared dead at the scene, according to Sheriff Ryan Reardon.
Garland’s vehicle, which was heading south on West River Road, apparently crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle occupied by two juveniles, Reardon said.
The juveniles suffered minor injuries, the sheriff said, and one was taken to MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta for evaluation.
Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor, as alcoholic beverages were found at the scene, Reardon said.
The crash shut down the road for 3 ½ hours. Oakland and Winslow police, along with Sidney firefighters and Delta ambulance, assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene.
No charges have been filed in connection with the crash, which remains under investigation.
