RICHMOND, Virginia — The Portland Sea Dogs scored seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings Sunday to defeat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 9-5 at the Diamond and complete their first series sweep of the season.
Teddy Stankiewicz earned his first road win of the year, yielding four runs on five hits over five innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
Danny Bethea knocked in Portland’s first run with a two-out RBI single in the second inning off losing pitcher Andrew Suarez, but Richmond rallied for three runs in its half of the inning.
The Sea Dogs sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored four runs on five hits. Andrew Benintendi brought Portland within a run on a sacrifice fly and Sean Coyle scored on a wild pitch before Aneury Tavarez and Tim Roberson delivered back-to-back RBI singles.
Portland added three more runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Cody Decker and a sacrifice fly by Tavarez.
Bethea had three hits for Portland while Decker and Tavarez had two hits each.
