CHARLESTON, Maine — A 20-year-old prisoner who fled from a Piscataquis County work detail Tuesday morning was caught later Tuesday afternoon in Brighton, according to authorities.
Jonathan Edman, 20, of Waterville, who was being held at the Charleston Correctional Facility, was part of a work detail on Route 16 in Kingsbury Plantation, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.
Maine Department of Corrections Deputy Commissioner Jody Breton said in an email shortly after 3 p.m. that Edman had been apprehended.
Edman had run off into nearby woods during the work detail. McCausland said he was located just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Routes 151 and 154, about 7 miles from where he was being held.
Edman is serving a five-year sentence for assault, domestic violence assault and tampering with evidence.
