BANGOR, Maine — A local woman is facing multiple heroin charges after an investigation into the alleged sale of heroin in the city, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Melissa Johnson, 39, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in the Airport Mall parking lot, according to MDEA Cmdr. Peter Arno. Johnson’s 8-year-old child was with her at the time of her arrest.

For the last several weeks, the MDEA’s Bangor task force has been investigating the sale of heroin allegedly involving Johnson, Arno said.

The case included undercover purchases of the drug from Johnson, Arno said.

A search warrant was recently obtained for Johnson’s Ohio Street apartment, and two ounces of heroin worth over $10,000, along with $25,000 in suspected drug money, was found. Johnson’s BMW was also seized.

Johnson is facing two charges of aggravated trafficking of heroin, a Class A offense punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

One count was aggravated due to the amount of seized contraband while the other was aggravated due to the fact that Johnson had her child with her during a drug trafficking crime, Arno said.

Johnson was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where bail was set at $50,000. The child was turned over to the custody of Department of Health and Human Services.
