ESPN signs Dilfer to extension
ESPN announced it has signed commentator Trent Dilfer to a multi-year contract extension, ending rumors that his eight-year run at the network was coming to an end.
The New York Daily news reported last month that Dilfer was “likely done at ESPN” and Dilfer responded to rumors that he may be in line for a job with the San Francisco 49ers by saying,” I’m focused on my broadcasting opportunities.” However, he did not specifically refer to ESPN, furthering speculation that he was considering going elsewhere.
Dilfer told the website TheMMQB.com that in addition to his “Monday Night Countdown” duties, he will join “NFL Countdown” to work alongside Chris Berman, Charles Woodson and former Seattle Seahawks teammate Matt Hasselbeck, who joined the network after retiring this offseason.
Former NFL receiver arrested after standoff
Former Miami Dolphins receiver Davone Bess is facing felony charges after a standoff with police at his home in Gilbert, Arizona.
Bess was stopped by police in the Phoenix suburb on Sunday night for driving without his headlights on and became uncooperative. Police say he pointed his finger like a gun at officers and later fled to his home, where he barricaded himself in his car and waved a knife before eventually ignoring the orders of police and entering his home.
A SWAT team was called and entered the home and Bess was arrested.
He faces felony counts of endangerment, unlawful flight and failure to stop for a police officer. The 30-year-old Bess was released on $2,500 bond on Monday night.
Bess caught 363 passes for 3,809 yards and 14 touchdown passes in six NFL seasons. He played with the Miami Dolphins from 2008-12 before finishing his career with the Cleveland Browns in 2013.
