SHAPLEIGH – Matthew J. Chadbourne, 37, of Shapleigh, Maine, passed away unexpectedly June 21, 2016. Born July 13, 1978, in Bangor, ME, as the son of Patricia Day and Dwight Chadbourne, Matt graduated from Bangor High School in 1996.
He enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Sergeant in the 10th Mountain Division as a 19D20 Calvary Scout before being honorably discharged in 2010. Matt’s Army service included two tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq for which he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Services Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
Following his Army service, Matt’s talents earned him a position as a nuclear structural welder at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he was employed at the time of his death. Matt loved being in the Maine outdoors and when not spending time with his family, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball, softball and golf.
Matt is survived by his loving wife, Sarah (Okusko) Chadbourne and his two sons, Ethan and Micah. Matt is also survived by his parents; and his brother, Dan Chadbourne and his wife, Lindsay; and his sister, Marci Parizo and her husband, Pete. Matt’s family includes several special nieces and nephews and many close friends, including a special friendship with Brian Grant.
On Wednesday June 29, 2016 at 1pm, friends and family are invited to attend a burial at the Veterans State Cemetery in Augusta, ME, located at 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine 04330. Friends and family are invited that evening to a celebration of Matt’s life beginning at 5:00pm at Duffy’s Tavern and Grill at 168 Saco Ave., Old Orchard Beach, ME 04064.
