AUGUSTA, Maine — Four people have been arrested in connection with a shooting in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Sunday night.

Arrested were the following individuals: Kwiesha McBride of Harlem, New York; Frankie Dejesus of Rochester, New York; Diana Davis of Rochester, New York; and Samantha Tupper of Augusta, according to a statement from the Augusta Police Department.

The suspects’ ages were not available.

Police were called to the Wal-Mart parking lot shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving multiple calls about an exchange of gunfire.

All four suspects were sitting in vehicles parked next to each other, and one suspect starting shooting at another vehicle, resulting in returned gunfire, the statement said. When the gunfire ceased, one suspect exited a vehicle to confront the occupants of the other vehicle.

McBride and Dejesus allegedly are responsible for firing shots, according to the statement. State police, Hallowell and Winthrop police departments and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office assisted Augusta police.

Police say after shots rang out, two legally armed bystanders who saw it unfold stepped in to help keep the situation from escalating any further.

McBride faces charges of reckless conduct with a firearm and aggravated heroin trafficking, Dejesus reckless conduct with a firearm and aggravated assault, Davis with aggravated assault and Tupper furnishing heroin and violating her probation.

All four were taken to the Kennebec County Jail. Bail for McBride was set at $50,000, Dejesus $25,000, Davis $5,000 and no bail was allowed for Tupper.

Police said McBride was grazed by a bullet during the incident.
